Cox Suckers

Well, I'm sure you all heard the news by now. After 18 years, the Smith & Barber Morning Show has been canceled by Cox. That's it folks, the show is over.

Many of you have emailed me to ask what the real story is. The real story is what you have already seen on the news. Bruce wanted to leave the show to explore other things, and Brian did not want to leave the show. So, Cox canceled the show rather then find a replacement for Bruce.

In the relatively short period of time Cox that has been in charge of WPLR, they've managed to royally fuck up what used to be the best damn radio station around, year after year. They took what had always been a truly unique station that was full of personality and molded it into a monotonous "loop-tape" that is completely void of any personality.

So, what can you do? Not really much. But, there are a few things you can do to at least make you feel a little better:

Take a moment to tell Cox that you're fed up with what they have done to the station you once loved to listen to. Then, contact the major WPLR advertisers (I wont name names yet) and let them know that you won't be listening to WPLR anymore. (Just visit their websites and email them.)

Remember, it's not the advertisers' fault that Cox fucked up the station, so don't yell at them and don't threaten to boycott them. Just let them know that the advertising dollars they spend at WPLR will no longer be reaching you, a former listener. You'll be doing them a favor by saving them money.

Then, stick to your word and actually stop listening to WPLR. Just, listen to another station, any other station. There are plenty of them on the dial. Sure, some of them suck, but some of them don't. You'll find something. If you can't find one you like, just pop in a CD or a tape.
